This term, Year 5 children have used ICT to embed a lot of their learning about animal interdependence and adaptation. They produced PowerPoint presentations before half term, and more recently scripted and recorded ‘info-casts’ on their favourite animals. Working with the software programme Audacity, they learnt how to manipulate different ‘channels’ of voice recordings, how to import and fade out music, and how to export their final pieces as MP3 files. |

This term, Year Three have been learning about Ancient Egypt. As part of this topic, we have studied the Egyptian Creation Myth, and we have used this as an inspiration for some music.
Class 3S recorded their compositions today. Each group of children created a soundtrack for a section of the story using untuned percussion. We were thinking in particular about the dynamics of the story - which bits would be loud, and which bits would be quiet. Then we recorded the story itself, with twelve children reading a section each. Afterwards, we used Audacity to stitch our pieces together. This is the result. |

Every year, Year Three performs an assembly for the rest of the school, and Year 2 from Bishop's Waltham Infant School. We perform this to show what life at BWJS, and in Year 3 in particular, is like. This morning, 3S and 3Z performed their assembly. The children had written the entire assembly themselves, and did a fantastic job in front of a large crowd. |

Class 3S recorded this at the end of a unit of work on 'The Pied Piper'. We learned part of the traditional Pied Piper poem, and fitted the words to a steady beat. Then, in groups, we composed ostinatos (repeated patterns) as accompaniments to the words. |

Year 5 children read their newspaper reports, written to document a ‘frog escape’ incident at BWJS. Please note that this event did not really happen; children were simply inspired to write by some clever acting from their teachers and Mr Campbell! |

On the 22nd May, 2008, Year 3 portrayed a day in the life of Ridgemede Junior School (or 'Bishop's Waltham Junior School' as it will be) to the rest of the school, the Year 2's from Bishop's Waltham Infant School, their parents, and the parents of the Year 2 children. The assembly was scripted entirely by them. |

Class 3S have been learning a section of Poetry from the Pied Piper story. First, we learned how to say it to a rhythmic beat. Then, we wrote some vocal ostinatos (repeated patterns) to accompany the main part. We split into four groups for this, and each group can be heard on this recording, accompanying the rest of the class. |
